Nashville’s Metro Waste Services (MNWS) launched a curbside organics recycling pilot on October 23, 2023, to reduce food waste and support the city’s Zero Waste goals. With over 2,600 applications for 750 spots, the program has already diverted 56+ tons of food scraps from landfills. Prioritizing equity, public-private partnerships, and data-driven decision-making, the initiative has gained mayoral support. The MNWS team will share insights on planning, adapting, and measuring impact, demonstrating how a small pilot can drive significant waste reduction and systemic change.
