In 2019, Maryland Environmental Service and the Maryland Aviation Administration initiated an organics collection program for restaurants at the Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Starting with a pilot program involving eight restaurants, the initiative has expanded to over 50 establishments, collecting more than 3,000 pounds of organic waste per week. This session will discuss program development, outreach efforts, and the unique challenges of collecting organics in secure airport areas, offering guidelines and methods for effective waste management in airport environments.
